Tofu to Wakame no Miso Shiru

Miso soup, a nutritious and healthy soup based on Dashi soup with Miso, is typically cooked with some of vegetables, Tofu, sea vegetables, sea foods and/or meats. Tofu to Wakame no Miso Shiru is one of the most popular and traditional Japanese soups.

Main Ingredients
2 tablespoons red Miso
2 cups Dashi soup (basic soup stock)
1/4 package silken Tofu
1 tablespoon Wakame flakes
1 tablespoon thinly sliced scallions


Tips from Chef

Do not boil Miso soup
Note to stop heating Miso soup before boiling. Boiled Miso soup would destroy flavor of vegitables in soup.


Cut Tofu into 1/2 inch cubes.
In a small saucepan, heat Dashi soup over low heat until it gets hot.
Add red Miso and stir until dissolved. Adjust taste.
Bring the Tofu, Wakame flakes and scallion pieces in the soup. Heat the soup again over low heat for about 1/2 minutes. Stop heating before boiling.
Serve the soup in individual bowls.
